Go to ur local guitar shop. Buy a book of chords. Choose 2 or 3 - A D E are good. Practise them individually till they sound good, then practise changing between them.There are stacks of songs out there with these 3 chords - Honud Dog, Blue Suede Shoes, Johnny B Goode etc etc. Hope this helps.

Corrin Campbell and The Election Win Duo/Band Song 4

Corrin Campbell has just claimed her second song victory, as she follows the Female Vocalist triumph of her piano and vocal ballad “When It Rains” with another $50 cash prize win – this time by the song “Sunbeam” which features the full-on rock and roll backing of her band The Election.

Make A Star's 4th Song music contest for duos or bands expanded to 8 contestants, and the past three weeks saw some close matches amongst the diverse array of exciting new bands filling up the Make A Star airwaves. The other finalist of the bracket contest was British Columbia, Canada hard rock band Quartered, who hoped to follow fellow Canadian acts Natalie Brown and Eireann O’Day with a $50 win. Quartered’s song “Mandible”, a cut from their 2008 album “Straight Out The Sandbox” is an impressive track that alternative rock guitar fans of Tool or Mudvayne need to hear. Clocking in at 5:34, “Mandible” is a dramatic journey of a song with many sonic peaks and valleys.

Corrin Campbell is a native of Superior, Wisconsin, the state’s cold northwest corner on the Minnesota border. After high school, she joined the Army and served as a vocalist and bass guitarist in the Army Band Field. Corrin was then deployed with the 1st Calvary Division in Baghdad, Iraq to serve in the Iraq war. Her official Wikipedia entry states that most of her time in Iraq “consisted of travel by Blackhawk to entertain soldiers across Iraq. She was featured at many high-profile shows, including the farewell parties of General Ricardo Sanchez and Ambassador Paul Bremer. She also met and opened for Robin Williams, Ted Nugent and Toby Keith when their USO tours came through Baghdad.” 

Since returning from Iraq, Corrin has made the Baltimore, Maryland area her home and performs live with her band The Election, which features drummer Tony Corbett and Jim Boyer on Guitar. The band plays regular gigs throughout the Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Virginia regions, and this year has also played shows in Nashville, Austin and Atlanta. 

With such strong life experiences to build on, Corrin Campbell seems poised for a bright road ahead, and music fans should be excited to know that a lot more new songs will be a part of that future. The prices vary so much on these. You have to be carefull because a lot of cheap electrics have many problems and will not last long....or give you a very nice song.
If you are just looking for something to start out on and fool around with than go for the cheap one. But if this is a talent you are going to pursue, save up and get yourself a good one. A cheap one will NOT stay tuned and will give a tangy banjo like sound..lol. They also tend to have bad wiring so the sound could cut out and on as well. For decent one, I wouldn't pay under $400. and I wouldn't go with any walmart prices..lol. Look for a used one ,you might find a deal.TRY before you BUY though!
My stratocaster cost me $1000 all said and done with the amp and cords ect... I bought it when I was 7 (okay my parents got if for me), that was over 20 years ago and it works like new. Minus the dents and scratches from my "grunge" faze..lol.

Choose your gutiar -- Firstly you will have to decide whether you want to play an acoustic or an electric guitar. The general consensus is that beginners should start learning how to play on an acoustic, due to the neck being wider than an electric thus making it easier for your fingers form the correct note formations. However, I would suggest that you begin learning on a guitar that suits the type of music you enjoy the most.

Learn the basics -- A lot of beginners jump straight into learning a couple of chords and playing their favourite song, after which they pick up few things here and there. Like with any area, in order to succeed you need have a solid foundation in the theory.

Learn with purpose -- The key to learning guitar is to have a clear and defined path of progression. What I mean by this is to have a definite roadmap of you playing progressing from beginner to intermediate to advanced. Traditionally this roadmap would be drawn up by a personal guitar teacher. However there are many other ways, such as online guitar lessons, that can help you with your playing progression.

Practice with purpose -- Once you have chosen a guitar, learnt some theory and have clearly defined your progression, you need to get down to the nitty-gritty, practice. Obviously mastery of the guitar does not come over-night. That is why it is so important to maximise you playing time. Every time you pick your guitar to practice, you should have a clear plan of what you will be learning and why you will be learning it. This will keep your practice time focused and keep you from getting bored with the instrument due to lack of progression. I would suggest you write a practice plan out.

When my son was 13 he wanted an electric guitar so I bought him a 'Peavey Predator' guitar and small practice amp. It is a knock off of a Fender strat but at the time was only 300$ for both. It,s a very good guitar that he has never had trouble with. He is now 25 and plays in a band that plays in local bars and clubs and he still has that guitar although he has several others as well but he says that was and still is a very good guitar and the small amp is really solid.So if you want a solid performing guitar and small amp for a good price that would be worth looking into.

The Winching Challenge: All About Competition Winching

What do worm charming, extreme ironing, air guitar, and winching all have in common? All four are skills you can use to win in competition. Not surprisingly, the similarities end there. As interesting as competitive worm charming sounds, winching is the only skill in the group that has a legitimate, real-world application. Sorry, worm charmers.

Winching is a survival skill, hobby, sport, and bonding activity all rolled into one. Off-road drivers who master the skill of winching can explore terrains that are off-limits to everyone else. The experienced wincher can confidently tackle trenches, mud holes, craggy trails, and densely wooded areas.

In some regions of the world, experienced winchers can also show off their skills in competition. These competitions, known as winch challenges, are popular in Australia, New Zealand, and the U.K. Some have official sanctioning bodies, while others are less formally arranged by off-road clubs.

Generally, a winching challenge is a race. The entrants are teams of two, one of whom is the designated driver. The event might have timed stages or it might involve only one starting and ending point. Either way, the course will cover terrain that is not navigable without a self-recovery winch. When competitors get stuck, they must winch their way out as fast as possible to avoid falling behind in the race. The fastest start-to-finish times win, but competitors can incur penalties that impact their score. For example, a competitor might be penalized for poor sportsmanship or actions that could damage the environment.

Vehicle modifications for winch challenges

To compete in a winching challenge, you need a vehicle that's set up for extreme, off-road driving. Each sanctioning body will have its own rules on allowed modifications, and some require competing vehicles to be street legal. In the highest levels of competition, a hydraulic winch is preferred over an electric winch.

Skills required for competition winching

Not everyone who's good at using a self-recovery winch is going to be successful at a winching challenge. Yes, you need to know the mechanics of using your winch. But you and your teammate also need to have great communication and teamwork skills. You also need to think on your feet and implement creative solutions, fast. Consider the last time you used your winch. Did nature provide you a suitable anchor point in exactly the right place? A winch challenge course tests your ability to solve problems under pressure.

Getting started in competition winching

An easy first step is to visit YouTube and search for winching challenge videos. These will give you an idea of what's involved in competition winching. These events are tough to watch in person as a spectator, because they're often held in restricted areas. But if you can find an event near you, contact the sanctioning body and ask about volunteering as a marshal. The next step would be to convince an experienced competitor to let you ride shotgun.

As of this writing, some ongoing winch competition series are the Scotia Winch Challenge in Scotland and the Mickey Thomson SSS Winch Challenge and the ARB Xtreme Winch Challenge in Australia.

I recently went to my local guitar center and asked the same question (with a bit more details). I wanted something with quality parts (something I could be proud to own) as well as a quality name but all without breaking my budget of $500. He asked me what my style I wish to play was (Trance/electronica backings as well as rock leads) and he pointed me directly towards Jackson (brand). They come loaded with features and nice quality pickups. Their entry-level models range from $275-$600 while their pro series can top out upwards of $3000.

A cheaper and more commonly used route is to get an Ibanez solid body. Cheap and basic but it gets the job done. $175-$399 for entry level. Also a well known name and some pretty cool looking models
