dont expect it to sound good and it might not stay in tune that well i bought a $50 guitar off ebay and it doesnt sound that great and the strings vibrate on the fret board and it wont stay in tune at all

Learning bass guitar would not be the first choice of most people starting out  learning to play guitar so what is its appeal to you?

The repair cost on a headstock break is typically between $150-200, depending on where you go. Call your nearest Guitar Center or other reliable music store and ask if they have a luthier qualified for a headstock repair. They likely will. And if your relative builds guitars, he's very likely qualified, assuming he actually builds and doesn't just assemble with pre-ordered parts.

Once the repair is done, rest assured that the headstock will, in fact, be MUCH stronger than it was before the break. This is because of the immense reinforcement issues required for headstock repairs. The repair is made to last.

It will take about two weeks to fix. The reason for the lengthy repair is not for the repair itself, but for the refinishing of the area where the break occurred. Takes a while to dry.

Bear in mind that the cost and time of the repair varies a little depending on the severity of the break. The worst break I ever witnessed was $275 and took 3 weeks.

The dealer cost would be around $75, and it would cost you around $115-135. To my knowledge, no bolt-on neck exists for an acoustic bass. In your situation, we're very likely talking about a set neck, which is typical of acoustic basses.

You will spend many happy and maybe a few frustrating hours in close company with your new guitar as you start to turn that dream of success in playing guitar from a fantasy on into a reality.

Initially when learning to play guitar students do occasionally find that they get very sore guitar fingers and that it can hurt!

The muscles in the hands have to alter and strengthen themselves to take up the position and movement demanded to hold the neck of the guitar and at the same time to place the fingers in the correct playing posture on the fretboard Then the lateral stretching of the fingers of the left hand required in moving between the guitar frets, and of the right hand gripping the pick over an extended period has to be got used to as well.

It will take a period of weeks of exercises to strengthen and stretch the muscles and tendons in the hands to diminish any aching or difficulty experienced in early practice sessions. It has to be accepted that there is a spell of adjustment to come through as you develop and maintain hand strength and it should not stifle early enthusiasm to learn to play the guitar.
