Changing from accoustic to electric guitar?
I wanted to learn electric guitar but can't afford to buy one at the moment, after learning on an accoustic guitar how easy/hard would it be to change to an electric guitar?
When I went to buy my first guitar, I was planning on buying an electric, but the owner of the store convinced me otherwise. He told me to buy an accoustic first because switching from an accoustic to an electric is easier than the other way around. An accoustic guitar has thicker strings than an electric guitar because they need to generate more sound than an electric guitar (because you have the amp). The thicker strings strengthen your fingers more, so when you do switch you have already started "strength training" your fingers. I played accoustic for about six months and then bought an electric, and the switch was pretty easy, and I'm not even good =).
Another difference is that electric guitars don't have the big bodies like accoustic guitars, so I think it is a lot easier playing electric because you don't have to wrap yourself around the guitar.
Hope this helps!
