How to prep for guitar lessons?

I'm a long-term fan of the guitar and piano and have finally been able to sign up for guitar lessons at school. My friend has offered to help me with the guitar. I don't want to waste his time with the basics but I also dont' want to learn the fundamentals wrong. I've never held a guitar and I'm not sure if the new teacher teachs notes or tabs. I understand how to read notes and I get the idea behind tabs but besides that, I'm completely in the dark.Any tips or suggestions are more than welcome! Thanks!

What's a good electric-acoustic guitar brand?

I am starting guitar lessons this summer although i already have some experience with playing but i have a really cheap acoustic guitar that i got five years ago, and so my parents are buying me a new one. i want an acoustic for sure, but was thinking of electric acoustic because i could make it louder (i have an amp and an electric guitar at home). what are some good brands for actoustic and electric acoustic guitars?

There are tons of great brands - Gibson, Epiphone, Ibanez, Takamine, Martin, Taylor, Seagull, Breedlove, etc. But since musical instruments are very personal and there's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all guitar, the best thing you could do is go to a guitar store and test drive a bunch of different ones. Each brand tends to have its own feel, so the only way to know which guitar is right for you is to handle a whole bunch of them.

I'm partial to Ibanez guitars because they've got really thin necks and low action, which makes them more comfortable for me to play (I've got small hands). They're also built like rocks, sound amazing, and nicer than many guitars that cost twice as much. My gigantic-handed brother likes Martins and Gibsons, which are beautiful instruments, but have chunky necks that are too fat for my hands.

If you want to do some research before going to the store, Musician's Friend is a great resource. You can search by brand, price or customer rating. Customers also post reviews that will give you a good idea which guitars are great and which ones have "issues" that could make them difficult to play or keep in tune. The most important thing is to choose a guitar that feels really comfortable and natural in your hands. One person's dream guitar is another's nightmare, so trust your instincts. The more comfortable you are with your guitar, the more you'll be inclined to play and the sooner you'll become a great player. Good luck!

Is it easier to play an elecric guitar than an acoustic guitar. I,e barring chords etc. And spacings

Acoustic is not better to learn on and yes playing electric is easier because they use a lighter gauge of string and lower action.

Do they make any black Takamine acoustic guitars?

I'm thinking about getting a Takamine G440C acoustic guitar...Im a beginner but it sounds like a pretty good guitar. But do they make any other colors in that one besides gloss natural? Like black or blue or anything? And also is the G440C a good Takamine acoustic? Thank you!

Takamine is a good company, but the certain guitar model your looking for doesn't come in other colors. (Note, if you like the G440C and how it feels, even though it's only natural tone, you should still consider it. Guitars are something that should be personal to us, so if your set on black or blue, definitely go for it.) (2nd Note there are very similar guitar models in black or blue that you might like... That's also in the Takamine link.) Your Guitar I believe will be about $250

I personally have an Ibanez Acoustic Guitar that I love! Mine is a natural tone, but do own another one in black that I recently just purchased for another beginner in the family. Also it comes in three colors, Natural, Blue, and Black... (Note, the guitar is an electric acoustic. It doesn't affect it, you can still play without an amp.) The Ibanez that I will post a link for below is about $180 (That's the price I purchased my two at and they were new.)

The White Keys on the Piano - An Introduction

There are only seven (7) letter names used on the piano: A B C D E F G. It is interesting to note here that no matter what instrument you play, whether it is piano, tuba or violin, ONLY the seven letter names above are used in the entire realm of music! There are two very easy ways to visualize and remember the names of the white keys on your piano and keyboard. Remember, the note names on an electronic keyboard are the same as on the acoustic piano.

Understand that the 'CDE' note groups are always located directly underneath the two black note group. The letter name 'D' in the white key always located directly in between the two black key note groups. ANY TWO BLACK NOTE GROUP on the piano has the letter name 'D' as the white key located in between them.

KEYBOARD EXERCISE:

Go to your keyboard NOW and start to play all of the C-D-E groups from the lowest (bottom left) to the highest (top right) on your keyboard. Say C - D - E as you play each key. The F - G - A - B note groups above are located directely beneath each three black note group on any piano or keyboard. Simply locate any three black note group on your piano or keyboard and realize that the F-G-A-B white keys are located directly beneath them. Directly outside of the three black note groups are 'F' on the left hand side of the three black note group and 'B' on the right hand side of the three black note group. Just fill in the outer 'F' and 'B' with G and A and you are done!

KEYBOARD EXERCISE:

Go to your piano or keyboard NOW and find all of the F-G-A-G white keys underneath each three black note group. As above, play slowly and evenly saying the letter names as you play the F-G-A-B groups from the bottom of the piano or keyboard (low left hand end) to the top of your piano or keyboard (top right hand end). Congratulations! You now know ALL of the white key names on the piano!

I'm a beginner electric guitar player and don't know how to recognize notes by just listening to them yet so I need the sheets for me to start out ^_^
